Claude Shunmogum Pillay ACIS has extensive experience in the Stakeholder Relationship Management field. He has consulted to many public companies, investment brokers and sponsors, providing them with intelligence and advice on Investor Relations, Proxy Solicitation, Corporate Actions, M&A transactions, B-BBEE compliance and JSE Listing Requirements.
Mr Pillay is also a pioneer in the field of B-BBEE Ownership Analysis and has performed analyses for many listed companies - pre and post empowerment transactions and for annual verifications. Mr Pillay was also instrumental in the turnaround of the Computershare Analytics business, which subsequently became the second largest Investor Intelligence service provider in South Africa.
Claude S. Pillay is a qualified Chartered Secretary and an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He has successfully completed the CIS International Qualifying Board Examinations as a Governance Professional and holds a B. Comm. (Accounting) degree from the University of Natal, majoring in Accounting, Taxation, Management Accounting and Finance. Mr Pillay has also successfully completed the AccountAbility (UK) Certified Sustainability Assurance Practitioner (CSAP) course.
Mr Pillay started his career as a Junior Derivative Trader at Societe Generale, specialising in warrants, after which he joined African Oxygen Limited (Afrox) as an Accountant in late 2001. In mid 2003, Mr Pillay joined Computershare Analytics as the Operations Relationship Manager and by June 2004, he was given the full responsibility of the South African Analytics business, reporting directly to the CEO of Computershare SA and the MD of Computershare Analytics EMEA. In July 2006, Thomson Financial, a division of Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters) acquired the global Computershare Analytics business and Mr Pillay was appointed as an Associate Director of Thomson Financial South Africa.
In April 2007, Mr Pillay returned to Computershare to manage the strategic alliance with Thomson Financial and to assist in Georgesons, a corporate advisory and proxy solicitation business. Mr Pillay was later seconded to Verify Solutions - a BEE rating agency - as a Financial Director to oversee Computershare's interest in a potential joint venture and was later appointed as CEO of Verify Solutions.
